International Infection Prevention Week

14th to 18th October – “Vaccination is everyone’s business” Residents and staff held lots of activity’s throughout the week to highlight the importance of having the flu jab, there was cake and a coffee – whilst a discussion was held around Flu Vaccine “Myth Busters” A Poem written by Jimmy – You won’t get the flu if you listen to Dr Nathoo, our Infection Control Lead liaised with local GP to arrange a clinic for resident and staff vaccinations A collaborative Art Project was held by staff and residents “hand prints” to highlight that hands are the biggest carriers of germs Residents design a poster competition was held as well as a Bullseye darts competition (questions around flu vaccine), Lightbox training for residents was held by Sharon and staff versus residents killer pool – infection questions and music

Everyone here at Mary and Joseph House is delighted to announce that following our inspection by the CQC we have maintained our rating of Outstanding that was awarded at our last inspection in 2016. Care Home Open Day

Celebrating the role of art in care! Thursday 27th June 2019 Mary and Joseph House took part in National Care Home Open Day, celebrating Art in Care and showcasing the creative work in our community, we were overwhelmed by the support we had from residents families and friends, professionals and the local community, our therapeutic art worker Sarah, held a fantastic art exhibition of the work our talented residents have completed and was available all day to discuss the benefits of involving people who live in care homes in the creative arts, which can delight, inspire and even bring health benefits. Our staff also provided tours of the home and pointed out all of the therapeutic activities that the residents are given the opportunity to take part in, it was a beautiful day, the sun shone allowing us to proudly show off our award winning gardens and the vegetables that our residents have grown, our catering team provided a lovely buffet lunch, and coffee and cake was also on offer

Our residents and staff were delighted to welcome two beautiful donkeys from the donkey sanctuary, set up in 2004, the Manchester sanctuary was the fourth regional sanctuary to be established and offers donkey-assisted therapy sessions. The Donkey-Assisted Therapy programme is specifically for vulnerable children and adults.
