Night Care Worker (Occasional Days)

This person must be able to commit to 39 hours a week over an 8 week period.
General duties include:
To complete a handover with day staff and ensure that you follow up on any concerns with resident’s dietary needs

  • To provide or assist in wakeful night duty cover in the home
  • To administer medication for residents at the allocated time
  • To undertake specified domestic or other tasks that can be effectively carried out during the night hours
  • To support residents to the hospital in the event of an emergency
  • To be responsible for residents’ safety and wellbeing at night
  • To carry out checks on residents throughout the night
  • To carry out all duties as agreed on the night register
  • To be responsible for carrying out building security checks for the house and garden ensuring no access to the garden between midnight and 5:00am
  • To prepare supper for residents attending the dining room and document on the Abylss accurate dietary intake of those residents’ specific dietary needs
  • To prepare supper for residents that choose to eat in their room, removing all crockery and cutlery following use
  • To prompt residents to change into night wear, monitor residents who may sleep in day clothes and encourage them to change into night wear
  • Provide all personal care and support needed to individual residents
  • To be aware of the procedure for night call outs, ensuring that two members of staff always remain on the premises
  • To respond to emergencies, remaining calm and following the correct procedures by contacting the on-call staff member for that night and maintaining safety of residents

Therapeutic Worker (Woodwork / Gardening)

Full driving licence required

This person must be able to commit to 39 hours a week. Monday to Friday.

We have a full-time vacancy in our outstanding care home, Mary and Joseph House for a Therapeutic Worker. The role involves working with all male residents who have a mental health or alcohol related mental health condition, as a part of an activity team. Daily tasks include engaging residents in therapeutic gardening and woodwork activities, to support their well-being.
Our main aim is to enable the residents to engage in physical, social, emotional and spiritual activities, (according to their abilities and wishes), which promote good all-round health and mental wellbeing.
As well as a physical activity, gardening can also benefit the mind. This role involves supporting residents to grow fruit and vegetables, as well as tender plants and flowers.
Holding workshops in our woodwork room where our residents can learn how to make things. These are skills that can be taken with them on their recovery journey.
Providing and assisting residents to access and participate in a range of recreational / creative activities, either in groups or individually. To carry out risk assessments prior to activities, to support the health and safety of residents.

  • Provide a safe, empathic, calm, nurturing, enjoyable and empowering environment
  • Support recovery unique and meaningful to each individual focussing on people’s abilities, while recognising needs and disabilities

Qualifications

  • Experience in therapeutic gardening and woodwork
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Knowledge of mental health conditions and their impact
  • Experience working in a residential care setting
  • Patience, empathy and understanding towards residents

Therapeutic Art Tutor

This person must be able to commit to 39 hours a week. Monday to Friday.

Full driving licence required
General duties include:

To champion, promote and encourage arts engagement in Mary and Joseph House and highlight the health and wellbeing benefits for all involved, provide activities that promote self-expression, promote reminiscence, and reduce loneliness through social interaction.

  • To plan, organise, review, evaluate and co-ordinate therapeutic Art activities
  • To work one-to-one or in groups, depending on the needs of the resident
  • To encourage residents to engage in painting, drawing, collage etc to help stimulate the mind and help maintain cognitive functions
  • To provide person centred therapeutic art activities, discovering the residents interests and use them to inform and design the therapeutic activities and themes that are provided for them
  • To encourage residents to relate to each other through their art and help them work through the images and their meanings
  • To motivate and improve the quality of life for each resident and where possible, encourage them to become integrated in the local community.
  • To work proactively in a non-judgemental manner with issues around mental health, alcohol addiction and challenging behaviour.
  • To befriend, encourage support and assist residents as described in their plans of care in connection with educational, recreational and therapeutic activities
  • To carry out risk assessments prior to any activity
  • To ensure that the art room is clean and safe, that no tools are left out if the art room is unsupervised
  • To ensure that all art materials covered by COSHH are used safely and not left out if the art room is unsupervised
  • To carry out regular reviews on resident’s artwork
  • To attend supervision meetings with the Manager
  • To ensure that all therapeutic activities carried out within Mary and Joseph House and in the community meet Health and Safety legislation.
  • Maintain written records of resident participation and evaluation of activities.
  •  Maintain financial records, as required.
  • In conjunction with the Registered Manager, regularly review the resident needs, the programme of activities and levels of participation
  • Organise theme events as required, based on local holidays, traditions etc.
  • Organise outings as appropriate, giving consideration to safety needs and staffing requirements
